Movember and the Midwest Moustache Alliance is Back!

November 1st marks the beginning of Movember, one of the world’s largest men’s health initiatives.  The purpose of Movember is to generate the conversation about men’s health, do some good in the community, and hopefully raise a few dollars for men’s health programs.

My Movember partner, Brandon Janosky and I would like to invite you to join our team, the Midwest Moustache Alliance in our effort to make a difference in men’s health awareness.  If you are wondering if there is a catch, there is: it can take you out of your comfort zone.  But challenges only build character and that character will don a lip sweater. There are only a few commitments to join, the first is to grow a moustache, beginning clean shaven on November 1st.  Second, become an advocate and generate the conversation about men’s health.  The third is to see your primary care physician for a wellness check.

This Friday, November 1st is Shave the Date. My face will be an empty canvass.  The proceeding 30 days of Movember, the medium will be stubble, and a razor my brush. If you are interested, you can sign up at www.movember.com.  Please be sure to join our team, Midwest Moustache Alliance.

Shave the Date is November 1st.   A few facts that may persuade you to join:

  • An estimated 13 million adult men over the age of 20 in the US have diabetes, and a third do not know it.
  • 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
  • In 2012, 242,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed and more than 28,000 men will die of prostate cancer.
  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in American males between the ages of 15 and 34.
  • 24% of men are less likely to go to the doctor compared to women.
Our goal is to form a team made up of men and women that are first and foremost advocates of the Movember mission, which is to generate the conversation about men’s health with peers, co-workers, friends and family.  The fundraising piece is secondary, but encouraged.  More information can be found at www.movember.com

It’s easy to stand up for something good, but it can be difficult to stand out.

Yours in men’s health,

Brian
